Heads up: Experience with Blue Car Rental
Main Post:
Having been back a week I feel like I can take a moment to share finally.
I rented through Blue Car Rental based on reviews here and other places. Plus they allow you on all F roads as long as you book a true 4x4. Cool.
I also paid for the $0 deductible insurance. Was that my downfall? Maybe.
I show up and there are a lot of really nice looking vehicles. Then there's mine. Older. 75K kilometers and it has been treated poorly. It was scraped up and abused and not overly clean. Paid for gps was missing. I went in to get the gps and the person behind the counter didn't really want to give me one. Why can't I just use my cell phone? Well, I guess because I paid for a gps because I know I'm going places without cell service. Finally handed one over but he didn't seem very happy about it.
Whatever. I've been on an overnight flight, I have 5.5 hours of driving until our evening accommodations and I'm tired and trying not to be cranky. I get in the car and go. It drives like it has been rode hard and put away wet and yeah.
400 kilometers later and isn't that funny, I'm still on full. Like, full FULL. I've been watching because the whole, when you are there don't pass up the chance to get gas thing is in my mind.
What's going on here? Yo, kid, figure out the capacity of this gas tank. Kid figures it out. Well look at that, we should be just below half a tank at least.
I call the handy-dandy 24 hour emergency number for service.
Now, that was a breath of fresh air. Not. Who are we kidding. If it was I wouldn't be writing this.
Rude. Only way you can say it. In short, she wanted me to take several hours of my vacation for her mechanic to just LOOK AT IT to see if anything was wrong. Right. Because that was going to be a quick in and out in spite of me driving quite a bit out of my way after an overnight flight. Sounds big time fun. Not a great conversation was had. No meeting of the minds so to speak. Seeing as how we were not going to reach a mutually agreeable solution (and to be honest, I still don't know what that realisitically would have been since I don't see them agreeing to deliver me a new car) of a discount right then and there I hung up. Proceeded to ignore the directions to their mechanic that totally came in after I passed that exit.
I'm good at math and I proceed to calculate when to stop for gas for the trip. Just not that hard.
Then the tire pressure emergency little light thingy goes off. Oh now this is fun! How long do I have? Hrm. Good guessing game in the middle of nowhere. We figure that out and yeah. Not all gas stations in Iceland have air but many do.
Finally turn the car in and go about our merry way. Gentleman at the city center turn it was awesome as opposed to the airport location. Looked at how much gas I was able to pump into a "full" tank and believed me. Told me he had no authority but to contact after I got home about a discount.
So I do.
They offered a 30% refund which I accepted.
To my surprise the credit just hit my account.
Would I rent with them again? Eh. I don't know. I'm not sure there's a better alternative but they weren't great. I did not have any confidence that vehicle was not going to completely break down.
So that's my info. You have the whole story. Good luck!
Edit: Forgot to mention: This was also a VERY base model. No bells and whistles. I was honestly kind of amazed the windows were automatic.
And this was by no means the cheapest rental available. In fact I think they were one of the more expensive ones we looked at.
Top Comment: I used them back in May. We ended up getting a free upgrade because they were out of car we had requested. The people working there were nice and answered all our questions. Had no issues, would 100% recommend. Sorry OP for your experience and thanks for sharing.
What do you think is the most practical car color overall?
Main Post:
I have been reading some articles about this topic and have been pondering the topic as well.
What colors do you think are most practical when it comes to buying a car?
Personally, I pretty much consider either silver or blue as my preferred choices.
Silver example:

Blue example:

Blue because I love that color and thinks it's beautiful.
And silver, because I think overall it might be more practical. It blends in more, catches attention less, which is good. Less appealing to thieves perhaps. Good for hot LA summers. Doesn't show dirt like white or black cars would.
But some people think that silver cars blend in too much and that fellow drivers don't notice silver cars well, making a silver car more dangerous to drive.
According to some things I have read though, some people don't notice blue because of the sky, green because of grass and trees, green lights, etc etc.
According to this article, silver is a safer choice than blue is.

According to this next article, a blue car is a more appealing choice for thieves, which would make sense, since a cool car in blue definitely looks way sexier than one in silver, plus blue is a lot of people's favorite color.

Any thoughts about this car color selection process is very welcome!
Thank you. 😊

According to studies I've seen white and yellow are the only colours that make an appreciable difference in safety as far as visibility is concerned. Otherwise, I'd say grey and silver are quite practical because they hide dirt and road grime better than most other colours. They're also easier to sell privately in most cases since fewer people are going to reject the car for it being an ugly colour. Personally I don't really care; I'd rather have an attractive/interesting colour than something boring.

Anyone recommend non black tint for my blue car?
Main Post:
Would like tint for best and privacy reasons but feel like the super dark black tint takes away from the cars blues. Any other non black tint u recc? I was thinking a silver tone but idk.
Top Comment: Idk around your area but colored tint will get you pulled over faster than dark tint here. Any colors illegal besides black or the small bluish
Is there a name for this growing trend of body colors?
Main Post:
I'm talking what Dodge, Toyota, and maybe others are doing with that type of color which I try to describe as if you clear coated a matte car and the palette selection. Is there a name for this style of paint?
Edit: here's the examples I should've provided. https://cdn.bmwblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/BMW-M340i-Nardo-Grey.jpg

ANSWER: Based on the responses, it appears that the answer is just a paint job with no additives like metallics, flakes, pearl coats and such. Just one pigment and clear coat for gloss.
Top Comment: Gloss. Just basic gloss colors.
Does anyone care about the color when buying a car?
Main Post:
I'm looking for a specific vehicle with a specific trim, so my pickings are slim.
I plan to drive this vehicle for a long time. 5 plus years, probably closer to 10.
It comes in 6 colors that I've seen. I really want red but that seems to be the most popular choice. I've seen 2 while searching and they were snapped up quickly.
White, Grey, silver, and blue are the other colors I'd buy, ranked in order. I will not buy black.
There is a decent deal on a Blue one right now, and a iffy deal on a white one. I can't get myself to pull the trigger on the blue.
How dumb am I being?
Top Comment: I like to go for less common colors
cute blue car?
Main Post:
hello! looking for my first car and I was thinking something subcompact, preferably to make parking easier lmao. my favorite color is baby blue, and I have a few cars that I was interested in, but I would prefer one under 20k with a good mileage, preferably under 50k miles. I was thinking:
toyota sea glass pearl prius (been having a hard time finding them for cheaper)
was thinking of https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/30c7cc5a-e109-452e-bec6-e3ed6915fb72/?aff=aolresp&utm_source=vast&utm_medium=trp&utm_campaign=aolresp&utm_trusted=TRUE&utm_campaign_id=8403653154

chevrolet bolt ev ice blue (too expensive, but can apply for tax credit?)
fiat 500e in blue (expensive)
volkswagen blue (cute, heard they're not reliable and many have high mileage?)
anyways, please let me know if there's any better make or models or somewhere I can find cars for cheap? thank you so much!!
